The Pup's Lament
I saw him on the way
To school again today.
As always, he was running around,
Trying to play with the children.
As always, they chased him across the street
Where he plopped himself down, his head on his paws,
His ears drooping, his magnetic eyes
Watching the children play.
I saw him on the way home today,
He was by the curb,
Cold and stiff, his paws outstretched,
Calling the children to play.
