Night Dance

In falling gray the glimmers shift.

The slightest light drops and lifts.

But on the horizon, off to the west,

Is a light much brighter than all the rest.

The morning star commands my gaze,

Rules the sky with ethereal face.

Venus beams into my being,

Its rays around me, always seeing.

This world is gone- my spirit’s flown.

As night wears on mercury peeks.

Through pallid black it’s barely a glimmer

While Venus’ light it passionately seeks.

Though future certain, it wishes grimmer.

mercury’s message is mixed and obtuse.

Did it beckon “Follow” or simply “Withdraw?”

Before its answer it dips in the dark

Chased by brightness, umbrage raw,

Yielding its space to beauty’s spark.

Venus now stands where mercury reigned

A beacon of beauty and power

mercury’s fallen for pride unrestrained

And its message is gone, its light just a shadow.
