Love without Strings

"Love one another as I have loved you."

He never sought to be the center

He didn't ask to be the view.

Through giving calm he waits to enter

The hearts of those too scared to love.

Once in the heart one thought infuses-

A giving love for she who chooses

To take the Love that's brought

To show us all the purest heart.

No act we owe, no prayer we mutter

Makes us worthy to live the love of another

It simply gives because it must.

Your son may punch and kick and scream

Your daughter may fight and blow off steam

And yet your love cannot diminish

Though you may chastise, scold and punish.

What might you give these children you bore?

Perhaps your life, your soul, and then some more?

So when Christ told us to love each other

Did he ever want it to stop at child and mother?

Or did he give us each other so love could be learned

As something to give with no need to be earned.

It's something meant to be

given in purity.

To see a glimpse of God's security

The blessing of love's eternity.
