Dark

There is no light.

Far from day and beyond the night,

Not even a glimmer of the faintest sight.

It's the same behind, above, within and around,

Floating in blackness- no up and no down

Like a man who can't see

It's the same to me

Whether my eyes are open or shut.

There is no sound.

Far from rancor and beyond being quiet,

Not even a whisper of a whistling flight.

A silence so loud it shatters the mind.

A calm so void it leaves peace unentwined.

Like a man who can't hear

I can feel no fear

Though I can't even hear my heart.

There is no touch.

Far from the sensuous and beyond any loneliness,

Not even a feint of a glancing caress.

No heat of the sun no wind on my face

Not even my fingers in a fist embraced.

Like a man who is dead

With a soul made of lead

I'm not even sure I'm here.

But next to me is a soul I can feel.

So the black's not so dark

And I might even start to hear my heart.

And realize, I might be here after all.
